It is the matter of great pleasure for me to note that a treatise entitled " HUMAN HEALTH, DISEASES AND THE ENVIRONMENT ( dissemination of research findings ) and Emerging and re-emerging diseases- update" in two parts has been prepared by Emeritus Professor dr. A K M Kafiluddin of NIPSOM, Bangladesh on common human diseases and health aspects which concern the people of Asia and the Pacific in general and Bangladesh in particular. I had an opportunity to go through a master piece of his earlier work dealing with research methodology for workers  of public health areas. The present work deals with a large number of articles based on his personal research pursuits ranging from environmental topics, such as noise pollution ( acoustic mechanism and remedies ), and human problems, child health (neonatal to puberty ), tropical diseases like visceral leishmaniasis, susceptibility to infection, impact of social problems on health factors, back ground studies on the arsenic problem, filariasis and dengue, diabetes mellitus, leprosy, ill effects of pesticides on life and a large number of case studies relevant to typical problems of Bangladesh and the subcontinent. the insight and intellect reflected in the treatment of the problems by dr. Kafiluddin will certainly inspire other workers in the medical profession as also these cases will benefit general practitioners and socially conscious people of this region. This work will exist as a source of information for researchers in the healthcare system in Asian countries and also as an example of earnest devotion in the health care disciplines of our country.

I wish that the author discovers a feeling of contentment with an early publication of this work.
